Victoria, BC – VicPD Major Crime Unit (MCU) Detectives are investigating three recent fires.  

Two of the fires, a June 16 fire which destroyed a restaurant at the intersection of Douglas Street and Burnside Road, and a June 23 fire which caused significant damage to a vehicle at a car rental business, have been determined to be arson.  

Officers were called to the scene of a third fire, which caused significant damage to an unoccupied residence in the 2500-block of Government Street, at approximately 11:05 p.m. on Sunday, July 2. No one was injured in the fire. While investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the Sunday night fire, it is considered suspicious.  

In summary, the fires are: 

June 16 – Douglas Street at Burnside Road | Arson  

June 23 – 2500-block Government Street | Arson 

July 2 – 2500-block Government Street | Suspicious 

Investigators have not determined if these fires are linked. There have not been any arrests. The investigations remain ongoing.
