Victoria, BC – The Greater Victoria Public Safety Unit arrested a man after he accelerated his vehicle towards a protester during a demonstration at the BC Legislature on Sunday. 

Shortly after 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 3, a man was taken into custody after he drove his vehicle onto the sidewalk in the 500-block of Belleville Street, nearly striking a protester. He was arrested for Assault with a Weapon and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle. No further arrests were made, and the demonstration was able to continue without any other incidents. 

As this incident is still under investigation, further details cannot be shared at this time. 

VicPD supports everyone’s right to safe, peaceful and lawful demonstration, and asks that all citizens respect this right. Dangerous or unlawful activity will continue to be met with de-escalation and enforcement.
