Victoria, BC – A suspect has been charged after stabbing a cyclist and committing a series of offences at a downtown childcare facility yesterday morning. 

Just before 8 a.m. Tuesday morning, officers responded to a stabbing outside of VicPD headquarters. Through the course of the investigation, officers learned that the suspect had also entered a downtown childcare facility approximately one hour prior to the stabbing. Once inside the daycare, the accused stole a tablet and pulled the fire alarm.  

The accused, Daniel Phelps, has been charged with six criminal offences including mischief, theft, possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, false alarm of fire and assault causing bodily harm.  

The stabbing victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The childcare facility was occupied at the time of the offences, but no children were believed to be in the vicinity of the accused. 

VicPD Detectives and the childcare facility managers continue to support the families and staff. 

Daniel Phelps remains in custody awaiting a further court appearance.
