Victoria, BC – VicPD Patrol officers, Crash Analysts, and the Forensic Identification Services (FIS) unit are investigating a motor vehicle accident that occurred last night near Douglas Street and Bay Street.

On Wednesday, March 20, just after 10:30 pm, an officer conducting proactive patrols in Victoria came across a motor vehicle accident that occurred near the intersection of Douglas Street and Bay Street. Involved in the accident was a car, a truck, and a BC Transit bus. The front of the car was engulfed in flames and the responding officer, alongside bystanders, safely removed the driver and passenger.

Several witnesses stated they observed the car travelling southbound on Douglas Street at a high speed, when it ran a red light and collided with the side of a truck travelling eastbound on Bay Street. As a result of the impact, the truck contacted the front of a BC Transit bus travelling northbound on Douglas Street.

“There were passengers on board the bus at the time of the collision, but no significant injuries were reported from the bus,” BC Transit confirmed. “The bus suffered significant damage to the front end during the incident, and there was lost service as a result. BC Transit thanks emergency services and their Transit Supervisor for their fast response.”

The truck driver received serious and possibly life-altering injuries, while the driver and passenger of the car had minor injuries. All three were transported to hospital for treatment.

VicPD Crash Analysts attended the scene of the collision and a blood sample was collected from the driver of the car to determine if impairment was involved.

Further details are not available at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
