Victoria BC –  VicPD’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) officers are reminding people not to leave valuables in their vehicles after the recovery of stolen property.

On December 14th, an officer in CRU was advised that a citizen had their vehicle broken into in the 700-block of Johnson Street and several items were taken. Later in the evening, the officer located a woman, who is well known to police for thefts from motor vehicles, who was in possession of some distinct items taken from the vehicle. The woman was arrested and released on a Promise to Appear with conditions.

In another file, CRU officers began an investigation into property crimes that were occurring in the area of Gorge Road East. Through the course of the investigation, investigators determined that numerous bicycles were being stolen in the area and taken back to a ‘chop shop’ in the 200-block of Gorge Road East.  On December 20th, officers executed a search warrant at a residence where several bicycles and other items were located and seized. The investigation is ongoing as investigators work to return the stolen property back to the rightful owners.

As we enter the last weekend before Christmas, please make sure that you don’t leave valuables in your vehicle.
