Victoria, BC- Our two newest VicPD Police Service Dogs (PSD), Havoc and Zender, will be “sworn in” at the monthly meeting the Victoria and Esquimalt Police Board in a ceremony live broadcast on our Facebook and Twitter accounts at 5 p.m. today.

About PSD Havoc

PSD Havoc graduated from his General Duty Canine Course  in June of this year.  Havoc recently turned two, and is a male purebred German Shepherd that came to VicPD via Germany. PSD Havoc is a young, high-drive dog trained in tracking, building searches, locating evidence, compound searches, and obedience.  PSD Havoc will be trained in drug/firearm detection later this year.

PSD Havoc’s human partner is Cst. Calvin Ewer. Cst. Ewer has been a police officer for 16 years. Part of VicPD’s K9 unit since 2010, Cst. Ewer is the current K9 Unit Trainer, who is master certified in training drug/firearm detection, explosive detection, and general duty canines. Cst. Ewer currently handles two police service dogs; PSD Maverick, a three year old chocolate lab who is trained in explosive detection (and is one of two explosive detection canines in the VicPD K9 Unit), and PSD Havoc.

About PSD Zender

PSD Zender is a purebred male German Shepherd who is 2.5 years old and is trained in in tracking, building searches, locating evidence, compound searches, and obedience, also graduated from his General Duty Canine Course this year.  PSD Zender will also be trained in drug and firearm detection. PSD Zender came to VicPD from California.

PSD Zender’s human partner is Cst. Glenn Foley. A VicPD constable since 2015, Cst. Foley served in the Patrol division before coming to the K9 section.
