Victoria, BC – Officers are investigating after a second theft of copper wire in two days from light standards in Gorge Road Park. Both thefts occurred in the North East section of the park, bordering the Gorge waterway in front of the Tea Garden.

Officers were already investigating after receiving reports of the first theft which occurred sometime between 4:30 p.m. June 1st and 7:30 a.m. June 2nd. The area of the park in which the thefts occurred is secluded. Additionally, power to light standards has been off for the last few days as the Township is working on them. While the amount of copper wire stolen in the first theft was small, the costs to repair the resulting damage are anticipated to be significant.

The second theft occurred last night when a person or persons unknown returned to the site and, utilizing what appears to be the same method stole an additional 200 feet of copper wire. Township officials are now reviewing the additional damage.

Investigators are asking for your help. Both thefts occurred overnight, and in both cases, distinctive copper wiring was taken. Investigators are asking anyone who has any information, or who may have been in the area of the Gorge Park Walkway between 4:30 p.m. on June 1st and 7:30 a.m. on June 2nd, or overnight last night to please call (250) 995-7654. To report what you know anonymously please call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
