Victoria, BC – Investigators have located what are believed to be human remains at the search site of the ongoing VIIMCU and VicPD investigation into the disappearance of Dana McKellar. Officers from Saanich PD, VicPD and RCMP have been at the property searching for evidence in the disappearance of Dana McKellar since Tuesday, June 2nd.

BC Coroners Service will now be working to confirm if the remains are human and if so, helping to establish an identity. The identification of the remains is a top priority for investigators. Once identified, the appropriate next-of-kin notifications will take place. Updates will be given as more information becomes available.

Investigators have advised the McKellar family of these latest developments and are asking that the family’s privacy be respected as they wait to hear if the remains discovered today are those of Dana McKellar.

McKellar was reported missing to VicPD in September of last year. After a comprehensive investigation, VIIMCU was brought on board to lead the investigation.

Through the investigation it was revealed that McKellar had been previously assaulted. Also, as the investigation progressed, officers learned that there may be potential evidence on a property in the 100-block of Goward Road.

The businesses at the search site have been cooperative with officers on scene. They remain open for regular operation at this time. The tenants and owners of the property are not involved in the investigation.

If you  know anything about the disappearance of Dana McKellar, please call VicPD on the non-emergency line at 250-995-7654 or report it anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
