File: 20-51097

Victoria, BC – Patrol officers serving a special duty assignment arrested a suspect after two incidents in which vehicle were damaged by a man throwing rocks at them.

Patrol officers were initially called on December 29th about two incidents in which a man threw rocks at vehicles in the area near the 2800 block of Douglas Street. Both vehicles were damaged. In one of the incidents, the occupants followed the suspect in their vehicle after he damaged both the front and rear windshields with rocks. The suspect fled before Patrol officers arrived, however the victims provided a description of the suspect. The suspect’s description was circulated to Patrol, Community Services Division and other officers.

At approximately 8 a.m. on December 30th, two Patrol officers who were working a special duty in support of City of Victoria Bylaw officers spotted a man matching the suspect’s description in the 500-block of Ellice Street. Officers attempted to stop the man, who fled from them on foot. Officers caught the man after a brief foot chase. He fought with officers, but was arrested without injury.

He was released on an undertaking.

This file is still under investigation and investigators are working to determine if this suspect is the same man who was reported to have thrown rocks at a number of occupied and unoccupied vehicles earlier this month.
